Pipeline Land, Right of Way & Corridor Management

At QCA, we prioritize pipeline damage prevention by reducing the possibilities of damage and interference to pipelines, other facilities, and selected hazards. We achieve this by ensuring that:

  • Signs and Markers typically get installed in the following locations:
    • along pipeline right-of-ways where pipelines enter and exit road and railways right-of-ways
    • along utility corridors
    • subdivision developments
    • construction activities
    • drainage systems
    • irrigation systems
    • all other anticipated third party activity (including waterways where dredging and commercial anchorage may occur)
  • Excavation Inspections: through these inspections, QCA addresses and manages the possibility of damage and interference to corporate pipelines, other facilities and selected hazards during an excavation. We accomplish this by either using engineering or administrative controls. The use of these controls reduce hazard exposure to the point where the risk is manageable or eliminated.

                • Vegetation Management: we limit the overgrowth on the right of way, to identify that the area is of some importance and to allow a clear line of sight in order to identify any potential activity and to aid in damage prevention. Proper vegetation control also ensures access to the pipeline for maintenance or in the event of an emergency.

                • Protection (Physical Barriers): we verify that constructed barriers and/or fences are in place when needed. These prevent access to company facilities in an effort to reduce risk to public safety and possible pipeline damage.

                • Encroachment Inspection and Mitigation: is the practice applied to situations in which a new or existing encroachment or surface development is identified on or near a company pipeline, easement, or right-of-way (ROW). This also occurs when a request is made to encroach or carry out surface development. QCA strives to manage these in a way that protects the public and the integrity of the pipeline, emphasizing damage prevention. We minimize the interference of non-company activities, structures, and facilities. This aids in the pipeline emergency response, the operation, maintenance and repair of company pipelines and related facilities.

                • Land Management: our responsibilities are associated with the acquisition and registration of land rights and to protect the interest of your company. We collaborate with external parties (such as surveyors, city and town officials, developers, legal offices, first nations etc.) for the preparation of easements, plans, contracts, permits and agreements necessary for the acquisition of land rights. In addition, we can assist with supporting the development and maintenance of various internal process improvement initiatives. We monitor and track outstanding survey plans and coordinate with your various internal and external groups and stakeholders. We make certain these plans are complete, registered and/or filed in a timely manner.
